More Athens 2004 on your Treo

Mon Aug 16, 2004 - 3:22 PM EDT - By Michael Ducker

Press Release:

The award winning Handmark Pocket Express wireless service will provide one of the best sources for up-to-the-minute news from the summer Olympics in Athens. The Reuters News channel is already one of the most popular of the Express seven wireless services and will offer continuous coverage from the Athens Olympics.

Beginning Friday, August 13, 2004, Handmark Express customers will receive Athens 2004 Olympic news delivered on demand, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the entire duration of the games. The Reuters Athens 2004 Olympic news will appear in the Reuters News > Life channel, with as many as 100 stories throughout each day during the games.

The Reuters team of 200 experienced journalists have access to venues and the Olympic Village and will provide full coverage of both the games and activities outside of the competition. Each Reuters reporter holds expertise in their assigned sports - especially athletics, swimming, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, cycling, rowing, badminton, boxing, basketball, and sailing. Results on each sport will be reported as competitors cross the finish line, plus regular updates on medal tables and world records.

"For two weeks the Olympics becomes a big part of my life and I want up to the minute information on how my favorite athletes are doing. It isn't easy with hectic lives that don't match TV schedules," said Augie Grasis, CEO of Handmark. "By expanding the Express Reuters News to include dedicated Olympic coverage all Express subscribers have fast, easy access to Olympic news no matter where they are!"

Handmark Pocket Express was released earlier this year for Treo 600 and other Palm OS as well as Windows Mobile smartphones and other PDAs with WiFi and an Internet connection. Handmark created Pocket Express as a bundle of seven wireless services to accelerate delivery of the information most in demand by a mobile generation. Express is much faster and easier than searching with the micro-browsers found on wireless PDAs and smartphones.

In addition to the 24 X 7 news coverage, Express will deliver daily Alerts detailing the next day's Olympic events, current scores, and standings.

Express is available directly from http://express.handmark.com for $6.99 per month; it is easily worth the price of just one of the information channels. Handmark Express enables a wireless search of news stories and stock quotes, with 70 news stories downloaded faster than a single page from an Internet site.
