I was very stoked to read that Palm announced that the Treo 750 will be made generally available across Europe via Palm's online store (http://eurostore.palm.com) and from retail outlets in the coming month, beginning Feb. 6. As you know, the Treo 750 was previously available on Vodafone's 3G/UMTS network since September 2006 in the UK and across much of Western Europe, marketed as the 750v. It looks like that's going to change starting tomorrow.
Another great thing about this news is that the unlocked Treo 750 will be compatible with 3G UMTS/HSDPA networks. So there will be some new customers who will get to experience that blazing fast 3G speed on their 750s. Nice!
"The Treo 750 smartphone -- made available first with Vodafone in Europe and recently announced with Cingular Wireless in the United States -- continues to expand our customer reach globally," said Roy Bedlow, vice president, Palm EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). "There are over 5 million Treo smartphones sold globally to date, and continuing to expand the Treo footprint is a key focus for Palm. The addition of HSDPA is just one of the great benefits the new Treo 750 smartphone has to offer professionals who want a strong mobile computing experience."
Microsoft's Pocket MSN, giving users access to MSN services, such as instant messaging and support for MSN Hotmail accounts within Outlook Mobile will be a part of the software available on the unlocked Treo 750.
Well, I'm hoping that we get the unlocked version of the 750 here soon. I've never had a WM Treo and actually never did care if I had one or not. But lately, I've been getting this feverish lust to get one to see what it's all about. Believe me, when this gadget lust hits me, there's no turning back. I'm sure there are many other gadget freaks out there reading this who know "exactly" what I'm talking about. I love all PDAs, especially Treos. I don't consider WM to be the "dark side", rather it's an operating system on a Treo that I want to learn and get a handle on. So bring it on Palm! Get us some unlocked Treo 750s! My Treo 680 is unlocked and I'm ready to slap my SIM card into a shiny, new Treo 750 and give it a whirl! This gadget girl wants some 3G! ;-)
