Palm Treo 755p

Wed May 9, 2007 - 2:10 AM EDT - By Jennifer Chappell

Conclusion

I must say that I'm very impressed with the Treo 755p. The design is great as it was with the 750 and the Treo 680. I like the choice of two colors but I still wish there were a few more color choices. I was disappointed when Palm stopped selling the colors on the 680 and the color choices went over to Cingular. Color really does matter to some users. And of course some people couldn't care less. I really love that soft touch finish and hope that Palm keeps putting that on future Treos.

I wish I had a stronger signal where I live so I could have better experienced the lightning speed of Sprint's EV-DO. I was very satisfied with the clear and loud volume of the phone calls. I don't think I would need to purchase VolumeCare on the 755p like I did with the Treo 650.

I thought that Blazer was nice and speedy but it still needs improvement. And I don't understand why Palm took away the "Disconnect" option in Blazer like they did with the 680. It's rather annoying that you can't simply click on the "Disconnect" option under Blazer to disconnect from the Web. Instead you have to go to the Home app and then to Preferences and click on Network to disconnect. I sure liked it better the way it used to be.

I'm not all that thrilled that Palm still hasn't included Wi-Fi. So many Treo users want and expect to have Wi-Fi built in. Look at all the other smartphones out there that have built-in Wi-Fi. I mean, it's not like it's an impossible feat. Even though I have a data plan and don't use it that much to go online, it would still be nice to have the option of getting online via my LinkSys Wi-Fi access point when I'm here at home or in an area where there are Wi-Fi hotspots.

The new included software is a nice treat. I enjoyed Google Maps, the IM, and especially the Mobile voiceControl app!

As I said earlier, if I were a Sprint customer, I'd buy this Treo as soon as it became available. I love it.

As for Treo 700p users upgrading to the 755p, I would only do so if you desperately hate the form factor of the 700p because the 755p is the same phone, only a smaller version. Most 700p users will more than likely be happy with Palm's maintenance release.
