We've just been given some interesting news about a new Palm Smartphone, the Centro.
The Palm Centro from Sprint:
- Smallest Palm OS smartphone to date
- Targeting a younger demographic, new to the smartphone space
- Runs on EVDO network
- New design features a full keyboard and touch screen
We are assuming that this new Palm is the "rumored" Gandalf that was recently talked about in this TC forum thread There is a pic of the rumored device linked in the thread.
The Centro was shown by Sprint during a sneak peek of some new phones that are coming this fall. The audience at the Tech Summit in Reston, Virginia included some of Sprint's financial people and a number of press and market analysts.
The Palm Centro is the smallest Palm OS smartphone to date, and will targeted at a younger demographic of folks who are new to the smartphone space. It is rumored to cost $99 with activation.
The Palm Centro will run on the EVDO network and has a new design that features a full keyboard and touch screen. It's interesting that Palm isn't calling the Centro a "Treo".
Sascha Segan from Gearlog , who got a chance to use the Centro at the event, wrote that the QWERTY keyboard is "infinitesimal: it's actually impossible to type on this thing with two thumbs".
Palm hasn't provided anymore information or any photos of this new device. Stay tuned and we'll be sure to give updates as we get them!
