Palm to release "Drucker" - Possibly the Treo 850v

Sat Jan 5, 2008 - 7:39 PM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

Well, well, well, what do we have here? I just read over at Boy Genius Report via our sister site WMExperts that BGR has gotten their hands on a Vodafone product roadmap. According to this roadmap, Dieter and I were correct in our predictions about the upcoming Treo 850!

From what we see in this slide from the Vodafone product roadmap, there's a Treo, Codenamed "Drucker," that will be replacing the 750v. And take special note at the following specs as you'll see something that we've been asking Palm to put in Treos for a long time; WiFi! Yes! Even better: GPS! Double Yes!

  • Quad-band GSM
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 (Pro? We assume)
  • 320x320 Flush (!) screen (gotta be touch? We assume!)
  • 2mp camera
  • 1500 mAh battery (huge!)
  • GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0

As Dieter mentions in his article, Palm seems to still love Vodafone since Vodafone got the Treo 750 and the Treo 500v first. It looks as if Vodafone will be getting the newest top-tier GSM Treo model first too. That's okay with me. WiFi, GPS, full QWERTY keyboard, a 2 Megapixel camera, 1500mAh battery, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 sounds sweet! Plus I'm glad to see that the upcoming Drucker is going to be a GSM phone.

Looks like we might have been correct about the possible release date of the Treo 850 model replacing the Treo 750 too. Here's the chart from our 2008 predictions aricle:

We were curious where the name "Drucker" in the "Palm Drucker (850v)" comes in? Like Dieter said, we'd like to imagine that the "Drucker" is named after our own "Michael Ducker". ;-) Dieter talked to Michael just now and Michael said that while he'd love to take credit for the name, Engadget commenter L3 is probably right that it's named after "Peter Ferdinand Drucker" who coined, 'knowledge economy' and 'knowledge worker.'" Either way, bring it on Palm! We want that Drucker Treo! ;-) CES hasn't even started yet and things are already getting exciting around here.

And for you folks on CDMA, all is not lost, we still expect the Treo 800w to arrive soon. Don't forget to enter the WMExperts Rumortastic Giveaway: Treo 800w Extras.
