Daylight Saving Time is almost here

Sat Mar 8, 2008 - 4:30 PM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Springing Forward!

It's that time of year again to change your clocks. Yep, time to go all through your house and set all the wall clocks and microwave clocks an hour ahead. And of course your wrist watches too. Luckily, if you have the right software update on your Palm smartphone, you won't have to worry about changing the time on your Treo or Centro.

Palm's Customer Support Team has posted a nice reminder for us all on The Official Palm Blog. Good thing because it had actually slipped my mind. Probably because since last year, Daylight Saving Time now rolls around a little earlier in the first part of the year and it ends a week later.

This year Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on March 9th at 2 a.m. and ends on November 2nd at 2 a.m. Palm's blog states:

People who have recently purchased a Palm smartphone or updated their smartphone using a Palm software update are pretty much all set with the latest DST calendar rules, but we want to make sure everyone is prepared so your devices are up to date, including your calendars (previous post on DST rules).
  • Palm Centro (AT&T and Sprint) and Treo 755p (Sprint and Verizon Wireless) customers, all the latest DST rules are already built into your device, so you are set as far as your device is concerned.
  • Palm Treo 700p, 750 and 680 customers: If you have already installed the most recent software updates for your device, all the latest DST rules are included in your respective updates and your device should be all taken care of.

You should keep in mind that your desktop must also have Microsoft's DST update in order for all your info to be in sync. If you're not sure if you have it or need it, check out Microsoft's support page.

All other Palm customers can visit the Palm DST support page for more information and to see if your device has the most up to date DST rules.

While you're in the process of setting all your clocks ahead an hour tonight, don't forget to make sure that all your smoke detectors are working properly. Probably a good time to change the batteries in those suckers just to be safe.
