Dieter's Stocking Stuffer Suggestions

Tim covered a lot of great stuff and I agree with pretty much all of it. So rather than repeat his suggestions, I'll add a couple of my own (especially for you PalmOS Treo folks). If you're anything like me you've become the de-facto "Treo expert and support person" for your friends and family. So getting your friends and family some Treo stuff they didn't even know they needed is an easy last-minute way to fill out your holiday list.

GPS: Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition 2 Bundle

$289.95, for 650 and 700-series

Tim likes the Copilot software, but PalmOS folks won't find it available to them. Me, I prefer TomTom (on both platforms, actually). I personally like the Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition 2 Bundle quite it bit. It's compatible with any Bluetooth Treo (except the 680, unfortunately), and for $289.95 it's an incredibly good deal. It comes with a car-mount, a car-charger for both the Treo and the GPS receiver, the receiver, the software on DVD, and the software pre-loaded on an SD card.

Bluetooth Headsets: Palm Wireless Headset

$49.95, for 650, 680, 700-series, and 750v

When it comes to giving a headset to friend or relative, I like simple. The Palm Wireless Headset may not be the smallest, longest-lasting, or even have the best sound--but it wins in one category hands-down: compatibility. It just plain works well with any Bluetooth Treo and it uses the same charging connector as the Treo itself.

Bluetooth Car Kit/Speakerphone: Blueant Supertooth II

$109.95, for 650, 680, 700-series, and 750v

I'll diverge from Tim when it comes to car kits, too. I love Motorola's stuff, don't get me wrong, but I adore this Supertooth II. It's a great speakerphone on its own, but you can also clip it to your car's visor - which is the ideal placement in my opinion. I've never heard a complaint about sound quality or volume, either. You can kill two birds with one stone.

Cases: Palm Pocket Pouch

$14.95, for all Treos

With cases, choosing the right one is really a personal and subjective thing. When giving a case, you just have to take a stab at what sort of case your "giftee" might want. My Keep-It-Simple-Stupid philosophy applies here as well. Longtime Treo users might remember the case that originally shipped with the Treo 600, the Palm Pocket Pouch. It actually works quite well with any Treo. It's a sleeper-pick, maybe, but I know that my sister still uses hers and likes it quite a bit.

Books: Palm Now You Know Treo

$19.95, for 650, 680, 700w|wx

Maybe you know somebody who just got a Treo (or will be lucky enough to get one this holiday season). If so, a nice companion gift for the new user is the appropriate entry from Palm's "Now You Know Treo" series of books. They're short, easy to read, and task-specific. Instead of plowing through a manual, a new Treo owner can just browse through the pages of these books to get an idea of what you can actually accomplish once you're Treo-enabled.

Conclusion

So there you go, quite a few options for stuffing some stockings. Whether you're buying for a old-pros or new owners, there's a healthy chance that one of these accessories will help them get more use out of their Treo.

As far as shipping goes, the TreoCentral Store will give you an estimate as to when your package will arrive. At this point I'd recommend 2-day or next-day air. The TC store isn't able to get packages delivered on Saturday or Sunday (or on Christmas, obviously), so this Thursday, the 21st, is the last day to get overnight orders in if you want them to arrive before Christmas.

Happy Holidays!
