Let's look at some Treo software that is new or has been recently updated. We've got a mix of Palm OS and Windows Mobile stuff, and I see some tempting apps.
As I mentioned the other day, Sling Media has come out with Public Beta 2 of slingPlayer Mobile for Palm OS. The update build improves stability by squashing several bugs. Although Sling Media officially supports the 3G-only Treo 700p and 755p, the new build will also work on the Treo 650 and T/X.
You can download SlingPlayer Mobile for Palm OS Beta 2 here.
Be sure to check out Harv's excellent review. You'll need a Slingbox in order to enjoy SlingPlayer. You can find the Slingbox AV here and the Slingbox Pro here.
Hobbyist Software has updated Initiate, the popular smartphone launcher to 3.0. Initiate lets you manage contacts and instantly make calls, send an sms or an email, play an MP3, movie or playist, and much more.
Just Some of What's New in Initiate 3.0:
Initiate comes in two versions, Initiate Pro for $24.95 and Initiate Standard for $9.95.
Astraware has come out with a new game that looks great. Astraware Solitaire features 12 of the most well-known and best-loved single player card games, chosen based on direct feedback and suggestions from Astraware customers. The games in Astraware Solitaire are:
Each game has custom gameplay options so everyone can enjoy the games using their favorite variation on the standard rules.
There are some cool features in Astraware Solitaire such customizable backgrounds and a choice of card front including a familiar traditional set with beautiful face cards, and a clear card face which is better for those with visual impairments, or for playing in bright daylight.
Astraware Solitaire is for Palm OS and WM Treos. Astraware Solitaire is currently available with a 50% discount, but only until 30th June. Regular price is $19.95. Look for a review on TreoCentral soon.
SplashData's SplashNotes has been updated to v1.1. SplashNotes is a very powerful assistant that helps you to take notes in class or a meeting, outline your ideas, or create outlines of any size and complexity, and turn them into checklists.
I believe they've updated the About Dialoge in v.1.1. You can get SplashNotes here for $29.95.
Be sure to read Jay's excellent review.
SplashNews is a new program by SplashData and is available for Palm OS and WM Treos. SplashNews lets you get the latest news, sports, gadget news, and SplashData blog feeds right on your mobile device, anytime and anywhere! You can add your favorite feeds and then sync with SplashData's servers to download the latest content on the go.
SplashNews is FREE! Why is this software "Free?" SplashData says:
We pride ourselves with delivering world class software for a reasonable price to our users. We will continue to do so with most of our software titles, but SplashNews is different. Let us tell you why.
As some of you are aware the mobile phone arena is quickly becoming ad-funded much like the internet. Users like you will have access to more mobile software and content offerings for less money if these applications are ad-funded.
Advertising will appear in the software. Advertising is embedded in the software and stays in an unobtrusive banner space at the top of the application screen. If you are interested in the ad, just click on it for a full screen graphic. From that screen it may offer functionality like Click-to-Browse of even Click-to-Call. There are no pop-up ads, and no personally identifiable information is collected. The user stays anonymous to the software. You will not receive any unwanted text messages (SMS) or phone calls because SplashData doesn't know your number.

pocketMax has updated alarmPal to version 1.03. alarmPal is a simple "small footprint" tool designed to provide repeating alarms for all important events. It can be added to tray, title-bar or run in hidden mode. alarmNotes are also available to quickly write a short note or voice message to be reminded of later. In addition a list of the last 10 callers is available to quickly dial your frequent contacts.
Fixed in v1.03:
alarmPal is available here for $10.95.
Note: For WM 5.0 or WM 6.0 ONLY
Budget Diary for WM Treos by PDAGear.net has been updated to 1.0. With Budget Diary, you can organize your Monthly Budgets right there in your Pocket PC, keep track of the Expenses & Income every month, view the Progress Bar representation of each income/expense representing its contribution towards the total, and Filter Records with Expense Filter / Income Filter.
Budget Diary is FREE and you can get it here.
picKeyGuard by Toysoft Development is a new program for your Treo. Well, it was released last month in May, but it's new to me. When I first read the title, I was reading it as "pickey guard". Duh! But then my peabrain got it. ;-) This little app is a great idea and will let you spruce up the screen instead of seeing the same ole keyguard popup displayed.
picKeyGuard is a KeyGuard replacement tool to display custom 3/4 screen or full screen JPG picture when the KeyGuard is active. PicKeyGuard can be configured to show the current date and time on the screen with different font and color.
picKeyGuard allows you to set a picture folder on the SD card. picKeyGuard will randomly select a picture to shown whenever the KeyGuard is active.
So, if you want to look at a different screen when your keyguard message comes up, check out picKeyGuard for $5.99.
Another program by ToySoft Development is Buzz for Palm OS, which has been updated to 2.1. Buzz lets you block annoying callers, marketers, unknown callers, your boss, friends or even family members. Ever wanted to be left alone and enjoy the peace and quiet times? Now you can with Buzz. Buzz will monitor all incoming calls and SMS and will apply the filters that you have setup to use. If you choose, a logfile will be created for blocked calls.
I really like the idea of the Safemode ringtone when your SD Card becomes ejected. I've heard of a lot of people losing their SD cards that are located on the top of the Treo and accidently pop out without the person knowing it.
You can get Buzz 2.1 here for $19.95.
