Palm Re-Posts Verizon Treo 700 Series ROM Updates

Overview

C5vettes lets us know that the Maintenance Release for the Verizon Treo 700p is now available here. The release, meant to resolve longstanding issues with the Treo 700p, was earlier released and then pulled after it became clear that it was causing network connectivity issues. The patch for the Treo 700w|wx was similarly pulled for the same reason.

The patch for the 700w|wx, was actually released last week, though not without a little drama. As noted in our forums by rickdotorg, emails were accidentally sent out to Verizon Treo 700p users, telling them the 700p had been updated when it was, in fact, the 700w|wx.

Although the patch brings Verizon up-to-date software-wise, the network hasn't been getting much attention from Palm on the hardware side. Palm has yet to release a single antenna-less Treo on the big V, leaving the Treo 755p a Sprint-only device. Also Sprint-only: the upcoming Palm Centro device.

Some have touted Palm's many carrier relationships as a strength, yet it seems like quality, not quantity, is what matters in this sort of relationship. Failure to get the MR working properly on Verizon's EVDO data network in the first place, a long delay in fixing it, and a dearth of new devices all point to something being off between Palm and Verizon.
