Let's face it: Palm's Blazer is definitely dated and long in the tooth when compared to browsers like Opera and, of course, mobile Safari on the venerable iPhone. However, I'm still able to browse the net on my Centro and Blazer is still up for the task. This week's Tip is all about making your Blazer experience a little more enjoyable and easy, thanks to a nice free app called WebLinks by A. Pruss. (link: http://www.freewarepalm.com/communication/weblinks.shtml)
WebLinks is a simple little app with a very useful purpose: once you install and run the app, it adds a feature to Blazer that permits you to add a web address in the form of an app in your Palm's launcher. For example, I've added sites I often visit (TreoCentral.com, for instance), and the site appears in my launcher as an app. Click on the app, and Blazer opens and you are whisked away to your favorite site.
The WebLinks download is only 17KB, so it takes up an insanely small amount of your Palm's memory. Just download, install via HotSync, then run the app one time. Once you run WebLinks, go to Blazer, then 'menu'. At the bottom of the 'Page' list, you will see 'Save WebLink!'. Tap on it and you can edit the website address in 'Edit WebLink'. Once edited and confirmed, you tap 'Ok' and an app icon representing your saved website is added to the new category 'Internet', which was created when you ran WebLinks for the first time. Incidentally, this is also the category where you will find your newly-installed WebLinks app!
Download WebLinks today and launch your favorite sites from your Palm's launcher! And who said Blazer couldn't hack it in today's iPhone world?
That's it for this week's Tip. If you are a developer with some helpful and/or fun software or if you have a Tip that you wish to pass on to the rest of the community, just email me at: [email protected]. Tune in next week for another Tip!
