In a Reading Mood? Grab an eBook!

Chill Out and Read

Are you in a reading mood? I sure am! Well, it seems that I'm always wanting something to read, but I've been more in the mood lately. It's so nice to know that we can simply find an interesting book and after buying it (unless it's free), sync it to our Treo or Centro and start reading it right away.

I can't even begin to count the sleepless nights I've spent with my always present pal Insomnia, reading an eBook until I finally drift off to SleepyVille. Of course, it's just my luck though that once I arrive there, the ole alarm clock starts its extremely irritating beeps and sirens, loud enough to wake the dead. Wouldn't you like to just grab ahold of your alarm clock just once and throw it against the wall? I've been tempted so many times, but I just have to drag my zombie self out of bed and start the day.

Anyway, thank goodness for eBooks!!! They are such a comfort whether you're trying to fall asleep, waiting in a boring doctor's office, commuting to work, riding along on a long vacation trip, or if you're just chilling out at home and are in the mood for some good reading. And the number of different subject matters for eBooks is just staggering! There are several genres and there's something out there for everyone. I personally prefer the thriller/suspense/adventure type of eBooks. And some good ole historical fiction is nice too every so often. You can fill up your Treo or Centro with just about any kind of eBook imaginable.

I just saw on eReader.com today that eReader Pro is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. Yes! I've been waiting and hoping to be able to read eBooks on my iPod touch! WooHoo! Note that you'll first have to upgrade your iPhone or iPod touch to the latest firmware 2.0 in order to use eReader on those devices. There's a cool eReader demonstration video to watch, so check it out if you have an iPhone or iPod touch or are thinking about getting one and you enjoy reading eBooks.

Gate to Nowhere

Back to the Treo and Centro ereading, I just finished reading a really good eBook entitled "Gate to Nowhere" by Leanna Sain. My favorite subject of all is "time travel", and "Gate to Nowhere" is a great time travel story. I saw it at ereader.com when I was browsing around for new eBooks a couple of weeks ago. I read the excerpt and found it very interesting, and was so curious as to what else was going to happen that I immediately bought the book. I couldn't put my Centro down and just kept reading and reading! It was only $5.35, and it was worth every penny!

Below is the description:

Free-lance artist Emma Franklin inherits a farm in MacKinlay, North Carolina and stumbles upon a mystery involving the town's namesake, a man despised and scorned by everyone she meets. Determined to unravel the puzzle, she steps through an old rusty gate in front of her farmhouse and is suddenly thrust 177 years into the past.

"Gate to Nowhere" is available here.

Final Theory

I just bought this eBook yesterday and haven't had a chance to download it or sync it to my Centro yet. It sure sounds good though:

A Spellbinding Thriller about a Science History Professor on the Run for his Life and an Unpublished Einstein Theory that Could Change the World.... Debut novelist Mark Alpert brings one of the most explosive books of 2008, seamlessly weaving current issues of science, history, and politics with white-knuckle chases. David Swift, a professor at Columbia University, is called to the hospital to comfort his mentor, a physicist who's been brutally tortured. Before dying, the old man wheezes "Einheitliche Feldtheorie." The Theory of Everything. The Destroyer of Worlds. Could this be Einstein's proposed Unified Theory--a set of equations that combines the physics of galaxies with the laws of atoms? Einstein died without discovering it. Or did he? Within hours of hearing his mentor's last words, David is running for his life. The FBI and a ruthless mercenary are vying to get their hands on the long-hidden theory. Teaming up with his old girlfriend, a brilliant Princeton scientist, David frantically works out Einstein's final theory to reveal the staggering scope of its consequences. With publishers around the world snapping up rights in sixteen languages, the book has already become a global phenomenon, and the dynamic characters and gripping plot will keep readers compulsively turning the pages until the very end.

Hmmm, I just noticed that one of my favorite authors, Douglas Preston, was quoted on the front of the book saying: "A deliciously explosive premise and a breakneck plot." I think I'll start reading this one tonight!

You can get "Final Theory" by Mark Alpert here for $14.57.

Rules of Deception

I had pre-ordered "Rules of Deception" by Christopher Reich awhile back and it just became available today. This one sounds like a real page turner too! You can read the description below:

Dr. Jonathan Ransom, world-class mountaineer and surgeon for Doctors Without Borders, is climbing in the Swiss Alps with his beautiful wife, Emma, when a blizzard sets in. In their bid to escape the storm, Emma is killed when she falls into a hidden crevasse. Twenty-four hours later, Jonathan receives an envelope addressed to his wife containing two baggage-claim tickets. Puzzled, he journeys to a remote railway station only to find himself in a life-and-death struggle for his wife's possessions. In the aftermath of the assault, he discovers that his attackers--one dead, the other mortally wounded--were, in fact, Swiss police officers. More frightening still is evidence of an extraordinary act of betrayal that leaves Jonathan stunned. Suddenly the subject of an international manhunt and the target of a master assassin, Jonathan is forced on the run. His only chance at survival lies in uncovering the devastating truth behind the secret his wife kept from him and in stopping the terrifying conspiracy that threatens to bring the world to the brink of annihilation. Step by step, he is drawn deeper into a world of spies, high-tech weaponry, and global terrorism--a world where no one is whom they appear to be and where the end always justifies the means. Rules of Deception is a brilliantly conceived, twisting tale of intrigue and deceit written by the master of the espionage thriller for the twenty-first century.

Now that sounds like my kind of eBook! *rubs hands together* It's got mountain climbing, conspiracy, spies and assassins, chases and high-tech weaponry. I might have to flip a coin to see which book I should start reading first. ;-)

You can get "Rules of Deception" here for $14.54.

If you're in the reading mood, head on over to eReader or Fictionwise and find a good book to crack open on your Treo or Centro. You can even read these books in bed at night without having to disturb your better half because there's no need to turn on a lamp, and you won't be noisily flipping through paper pages. Sweet!
