It's already all over the internet: Palm is working on releasing a new Windows Mobile Treo that we previously expected would be called the Treo 850 but now looks to be called the "Treo Pro." Originally spotted by scottymomo in our forums and then confirmed by a huge gallery of live photos found by nomad2000, the Treo Pro looks to be the GSM equivalent to the Treo 800w (read our Review of the Treo 800w here)
The Treo Pro is not identical to the Treo 800w, however. Although it features similar specifications like 3G speeds, WiFi, a 320x320 screen, and no external antenna, it sports very different looks. As you can see from the image at right, it has a flush touch screen and a keyboard that appears to be a merger betwee the Palm Centro and traditional Treo keyboards.
As with the differences between the Treo 700wx and the Treo 750, many in our forums are bemoaning the fact that Palm seems to offer slightly better styling to GSM customers and possibly, by extension, the European market. Still, the Treo Pro, if the leaked images and rumors of the device are any indication, looks to be a huge winner for Palm.
Reasons we'd like to see the Treo Pro release ASAP: thinner than even the Centro with a very large, 1500 mAh battery, WiFi, excellent customizations added to Windows Mobile, and it will work around the world on the 3G network.
One last note: TreoCentral is also running a contest to give away a Treo 850 / Treo Pro to one lucky forum member who correctly guesses the official release date of the Treo Pro on AT&T. Find all the details here!
