WMExperts reported recently via Mobile Burn that Google has added localized search capabilities to Google.com for Windows Mobile smartphones. The Official Google Mobile Blog says that Search with My Location is "a new way to make searching for nearby businesses on your Windows Mobile phone faster and easier."
According to Mobile Burn, the system makes use of the same cell tower information that the Google Maps app uses to provide local results for most any search term.
Go to Google.com from any mobile browser and look for the "My location link". Nick at WMExperts says to make sure that you have Google Gears installed first.
Google.com will automatically note your rough location and apply the information against your search queries.
The Official Google Mobile Blog states:
We take your privacy seriously and have designed Search with My Location so that it doesn't associate your location with any personally identifiable information, even if you are logged in. We wont send your location until you explicitly opt in, and you can always opt-out from the Gears Settings under the Tools menu.
