Smartphone Round Robin: AT&T Fuze Video Review

Mon Nov 17, 2008 - 12:56 PM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

So here we are in the 2nd annual Smartphone Round Robin. I've had to put my Centro and Treo Pro aside for awhile. At least I can still look at them and hold them. My first smartphone in the Round Robin is the AT&T Fuze.

I'm already impressed with the Fuze for the short time that I've had it. My biggest complaint at the moment is that I haven't been able to sync the Fuze yet with any of my computers. I'm still working on it though, and I've had some great help over in the Round Robin thread at WMExperts. I sure do appreciate everyone's help over there!

The big screen on the Fuze is wonderful! I also love the slide out keyboard. I thought it would be hard to type on, but it's actually not. It's not as easy to type on as my Treo Pro or Centro, but I still like it a lot.

The TouchFlo 3D is really nice, but it does seem to lag at times. Sometimes I can run my finger across the screen and nothing happens at all. That's where I really miss the snapiness of my Centro. The Centro might not have the fancy UI with the TouchFlo 3D, but it's quick and I can open up apps and switch apps very quickly and not have to worry about any lag.

Below is my video review, but I want to note a couple of errors in the video. I accidentally referred to the microSD slot as the miniSD slot. I probably said quite a few things wrong actually. This is the first video I've EVER done and it's a miracle that it even got made because I have social anxiety disorder. Because of that nice little problem, my mind goes as blank as a sheet of paper when I get nervous. But I trudged through making the video regardless because I love all of our TreoCentral readers!

Many of you might consider my lazy southern accent an error! LOL! Sorry if it sounds cuckoo but that's just the way I talk. Let me know if you need any translations! ;-)

Another error is that I said "Copperhead" by mistake when I was thanking some forum members. I'm sorry Coppertop! For some reason, I just had "Copperhead" stuck in my mind. You know I love ya Coppertop, so please overlook my mistake.

Even though I said something in the video about the Fuze being sort of clunky, I just meant the shape and heft of the device. The Fuze is actually much smaller than I thought it would be. It's a very pocketable device.

The fingerprints are driving me insane though! Arrgh! I already have the obsessive compulsiveness about wiping fingerprints from my Palm smartphones, and they aren't even that bad with fingerprints. The Fuze on the other hand, is like the largest and most powerful fingerprint magnet in the universe. No amount of wiping is going to get those smudges off. Every side of the device gets smudges and prints all over it. The Fuze would be every CSI employee's dream object to test for fingerprints!

Anyway, on to the video...

Here are a few photos of the Fuze:
