Trend: Pay by Mobile

Mon Oct 11, 2010 - 8:51 PM EDT - By Annie Latham

According to a recent PC World story, the cash-free world of buying lunch with the swipe of a smartphone - no wallet needed - is fast approaching.

Author of the story, Mark Sullivan, had an opportunity to speak with smartphone payment pioneer, BOKU. Their senior vice president of marketing said that he expects to see "small pockets" of mobile payments next year, and broader adoption of the technology in 2012.

On the plus side, convenience and shorter checkout lines to pay.

On the plus side for the merchant, but downside for the consumer, this type of immediate gratification means "less time to ask yourself if you really need what you're buying."
