Wireless Sync on Verizon

Fri Jul 23, 2004 - 4:14 PM EDT - By Michael Ducker

Press Release:

Intellisync Corporation (NASDAQ:SYNC) , a leading provider of mobility and synchronization software, announced today that its award-winning Mobile Suite(TM) technology has been selected as Verizon Wireless' email and synchronization platform. Intellisync's mobility solutions will be introduced by Verizon Wireless under the Wireless Sync brand name in conjunction with the launch of palmOne Inc.'s popular Treo(TM) 600 smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network. Wireless Sync will utilize Intellisync's wireless "push" technology to keep the Treo 600 and other devices in sync with groupware applications such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.

This launch constitutes the initial steps Intellisync and Verizon Wireless are taking to bring the most user-friendly, sophisticated and technically advanced mobility solutions to the market. The integration of Intellisync's Mobile Suite platform into the Verizon Wireless product family is part of the wireless service provider's strategy to offer the widest range of wireless and enterprise mobilization capabilities to its subscriber base of over 40 million customers.

"Verizon Wireless is committed to providing the highest-quality products and services to our network of diverse, loyal customers," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. "We believe Intellisync has industry-leading solutions that address critical elements of our mobility value-chain. With its proven expertise in supporting many groupware and mobile device platforms, Intellisync is essential to helping us offer wireless synchronization capabilities to the broadest possible range of customers."

Wireless Sync keeps Treo 600 users up-to-the-minute with their groupware- based email, calendars, contacts and tasks. The solution provides a small client that can be quickly downloaded and installed on any available PC to monitor email and PIM data in Microsoft Outlook(R) or Lotus Notes(R), and then push the information to the Treo 600. Different from a "redirector," this client acts as an agent to enable two-way synchronization of email, as well as calendars, contacts and tasks.

Wireless Sync provides several advantages compared with similar offerings in the marketplace:

-- The solution's client can be easily configured to monitor a single user's mailbox or entire workgroups from any PC in the office. Individual users can now turn off their own PC or take their laptops with them and still have wireless email access -- all without IT involvement.

-- Regardless of the deployment model selected, Wireless Sync provides a single, consistent user interface, minimizing the support burden and maximizing user productivity.

-- The solution provides wireless push capabilities not only for email, but for calendars, contacts and tasks as well. Additions and changes made to Outlook contacts on the PC, for example, are automatically sent to the Treo 600, and vice-versa.

-- Wireless Sync offers end-to-end security on all platforms.

"Intellisync has an array of sophisticated solutions that complement the Treo 600 smartphone," said Joe Fabris, director of wireless marketing for palmOne. "The combination of the Treo 600 and Wireless Sync lets customers of the nation's largest network be as productive on the go as in the office."

"Intellisync is pleased to be selected as the email provider of choice by Verizon Wireless for the Treo 600 on their industry-leading network," said Woodson (Woody) Hobbs, Intellisync's president and CEO. "This agreement with Verizon Wireless is a major new opportunity for Intellisync. We believe that this expanded relationship will serve to enhance Intellisync's position as a leading independent provider of mobile email."
