It was announced today that Ed Colligan, President of PalmOne, will be delivering a keynote speech at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2004 on October 25th. The conference, held on October 25th-27th, is in San Fransisco at Moscone West.
Ed Colligan will be delivering a keynote in the session titled, Enterprise Solutions. Prior to being named President of palmOne, Inc. in June 2004, Mr. Colligan was a palmOne Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wireless Business Unit. Before that, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Handspring, Inc. where he led the development and marketing efforts for handheld computers and Treo smartphones before the company was acquired by palmOne in October 2003.
The timing of this keynote is intriguing, because it has been rumored that the next generation Treo, code-named Ace, will be announced and ship sometime near the end of October or beginning of November. While PalmOne did not use any specific event to launch the Treo 600, instead opting for a community buzz approach, they have in the past used tradeshows as an avenue to introduce a product. The first Treo, Treo 180, has its first real public outing during Comdex 2001. There, Handspring had booths, private rooms, and a keynote speech from Jeff Hawkins.
TreoCentral has in the past covered CTIA, and we plan to do so this year and in the future. We will have more concrete plans soon.
