Before using the G2, Bluetek recommends charging both the G2 and the Bluetooth dongle overnight. Both devices have LED lights that indicate when they are fully charged. The G2's LED is purple while charging and Blue when fully charged. The dongle's LED is red while charging and green when fully charged.
Regarding battery life, the G2's battery is rated for 500 charging cycles, and it is recommended that you wait until the battery is low (you will hear a periodic light beep) before charging.
You then have to go through a one-time process called pairing. This establishes a secure connection between the Treo 600 and the G2. The dongle is preconfigured with a Bluetooth Profile that is compatible with the Treo 600 and uses a passcode of 0000 by default.
On the G2, hold the talk button for about 7 seconds until the LED flashes red & blue. On the dongle, press the button for about 10 seconds until the light quickly alternates betwen red and green. then press the button again for one second, and it flashes again.
When the devices have properly paired, the dongle will blink green periodically, and the headset will blink blue. Pairing was the hardest part. The prior paragraph took me a good 15-20 minutes to get right, because the dongle is very dependent on how long you hold the button down. The G2 is available seperately, so you will need to use both manuals during configuration (page 6 of the G2 manual and page 8 of the dongle manual). I had a moment of Eureka when I finally got it working.
Powering On / Off
Now that you have the devices paired, it's time to use them. First plug the dongle into the Treo 600. The cable's pretty short, and although the dongle has a built-in beltclip, you'll never wear it on your belt next to the Treo because the cable's so short. This device will most likely be used in a car or on a desk. Turn the dongle on by holding the button for a couple seconds until you see an amber light. Let go and you'll soon see a periodic green light. This means the unit is in standby mode. Use the same method to turn the dongle off.
To turn on the G2 headset, hold the talk button for a few seconds till you see the blue light flashing. You'll also hear a single beep. To turn the G2 off, hold the talk button for five seconds until you see a red light.
NOTE: It is very important that you remember to turn off the devices when not in use. The Dongle is rated for only 2 hours of talk time and 4 hours of standby time, so its battery can quickly die if you forget to turn it off, even if you unplug it from the Treo. I know because it happened to me. Turning the Treo's screen off puts the dongle in passive mode and does conserve some power, but it only takes a second to turn the dongle's power on and off, I think that's a better method of conserving power.
