The Treo and You

Wish You Were Here

Last weekend, I went on a camping trip with some friends at my family's farm. There is no better time for camping in Texas than in Spring—the humidity is low, there is usually a nice breeze blowing through, and the weather in general is just great. Saturday was a typical day of nonpredictable weather. During the day, we relaxed on a sandbar at the Colorado River; that night, thunderstorms tore through the area, and high winds made us all wonder if our tents would make it through the night.

This was the first time camping where it rained, and I used my Treo 650 to keep up with the weather using the excellent mobile website for Weather Underground. Meanwhile, one of my friends was using his Treo 600 to get updates from his fiancee on how the storms were impacting Houston.

Because of the Treo, we were prepared for the worst. Thankfully, we did not get the golfball-sized hail that some areas got, but we did get some very high winds. Ironically, the best tent was the one that fell—I wish I could have seen my friend's face when he woke with it on top of him!

Today is Good Friday, and I spent part of it fishing with my Dad at an area lake near the farm. On a day like today, when the bass are striking and the weather is good, you want to share that experience with those who could not be with you. So I took the picture shown here and sent it to my brother in Colorado and my sister in Houston and let them know that I was thinking of them (and to rub it in that I was fishing while they were at work). Although the rest of my family do not have Treos, we regularly send pictures to each other. I love the spontaneity that a camera phone brings. I also did some testing for a review of the OtterBox 1900, which lets you take the Treo practically anywhere.

These are just some of the small ways that the Treo has changed my life. Be it skiing, camping, or whatever, the Treo goes almost everywhere with me.

How has the Treo changed your life? Tell me about it here in the forum.
