Overview

When I first heard about the SkinTight case for the Treo 650, I was looking forward to it. Speck Products is known for its iPod accessories, and as far as I'm concerned, the more accessories available for the Treo, the better. The price for the company's skin case and a beltclip holster is significantly lower than buying a case and holster separately. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for.

Usability

The SkinTight case is made of very nice rubber that does not feel sticky and is thicker than other skin cases I have used. It is available in clear (translucent white), blue, or black. There are some rubber nubs on the back, similar to the ToughSkin, that make the case easier to hold. A screen cover protects the Treo's screen and can flips up when one needs to tap the screen. The cover is removable—pegs on either side go into the case. The cover is almost guaranteed to get lost; after repeatedly inserting and removing the Treo from the SkinTight, I can see the peg holes on the case moving apart enough for the cover to slide out.

And you will be removing the Treo from this case quite often. Unlike other skin cases that are designed so that all of the Treo's functions are available, the top of the SkinTight completely covers the Treo's SD slot, IR port, and SIM slot. If you have any SD cards that stick out of the top of the Treo, you can forget about this case. Switching out the SIM card to another phone also becomes a pain. Only the volume switch is exposed. It is a real shame that the top of the case was so poorly designed, because the rest of the case is well designed.

The holster for the SkinTight is one of the worst I have ever used. At first glance, it is similar to the Seidio Shield Holster, but the there is no comparison in quality. The plastic for the SkinTight holster is thin and flimsy, and the flap at the top has to be lifted when inserting the Treo into the holster. The flap goes over the rubber, so it becomes very difficult to insert and remove the case with only one hand, and I can see some users breaking the flap.

The holster is painted silver, and the beltclip can be rotated 360°. The full-swivel is a nice feature, but the silver paint near the beltclip wears down as soon as you rotate the Treo a few times. The holster also does not have a hole for those who want to plug headphones into the Treo.

It would have been better if Speck Products would have put the holster flap on the other side, then there could have been full cutouts for the SD, IR, and SIM parts of the Treo.
