Overview

For better or for worse, earphones are all around us. The runaway sales of iPods has made wearing headphones cool again; not a day goes by when I don't see someone wearing those ubiquitous white earpieces. Mobile phones have always had corded headsets that give their owners some hands-free abilities, but with the advent of Bluetooth, are corded headsets needed anymore?

The Seidio 2-in-1 In-Ear Isolator Headphones aim to satisfy users who want to use the Treo's multimedia features yet still be able to hold a hands-free conversations.

Music to my ears

Seidio has really improved upon its original headsets. These new Isolator Headphones have more stylish volume and mic controls. Their control box is thinner and nicely contoured, and the volume wheel peeks out of both sides so its easier to quickly grab and adjust the volume, without fumbling around for it. You can clip the control box to your shirt and it matches the black cables of the Isolator Headphones save for a chrome button that is used to answer or hang up the phone.

After years of searching, I have finally found comfortable headphones. I never used in-ear headphones before, and after using the Isolator Headphones, I will always recommend this style of headphones to folks who don't like earbuds because for many, buds are simply too uncomfortable.

The Isolator Headphones are so light that I kept worrying they would fall out of my ears, but that never happened. No more red ears. No more itchiness. Just bliss while jamming to my MP3s from Pocket Tunes.

Audio quality was excellent. With Bluetooth headsets you have to keep the volume almost maxed out to hear everything, but these Isolator Headphones provide audio thats significantly better than other Seidio headphones I have used. The company makes quite a range of headsets, so if in-ear headphones aren't your thing, check out Doug's review of their Foldable Headphones for another option.

Mic Quality

Since these are 2-in-1 dual use headphones, I gave them a workout with some phone calls. I have never been a big fan of corded headsets because their mics always made my voice sound distant and tinny to the person I was calling. The Isolator Headphones suffer from the same issue. While I could always hear the other caller fine, people I called complained that they had to turn up their phones volume to the max to hear me well. I suggest using the clip on the Isolator Headphones to position the mic near the top of your shirt, closer to your mouth, to get the best sound possible. You should also check out Magic Button, as it lets you use the control button in Pocket Tunes and while on calls.

If you plan to use the Isolator Headphones while driving, make sure you wear them on only one ear, as some states and municipalities ban motorists from wearing headphones on or in both ears while driving, and if John Law spots you doing it, youll pay the price. And dont let me catch you wearing both headphones while driving around Houston - we have enough bad drivers as it is!
