Mark/Space has released a significant upgrade to The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, their software for synchronizing WM Smartphones and Pocket PCs with computers running Mac OS X.
According to Ed Hardy over at Brighthand, one of the most significant features just added to The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile is file and folder synchronization, which lets users setup folders and files to keep in sync between their Mac and mobile device. Make changes to a file with the mobile edition of Word, and The Missing Sync will copy the updated version to your Mac during the next sync.
Another great improvement is that this update introduces plug-ins that synchronize directly with iPhoto and iTunes. This is great news for all those who have been relying on hacks! While smartphones and Pocket PCs can't play protected songs from the iTunes Music Store, unprotected music and podcasts can be sent to the device when you sync, just by checking playlists from iTunes.
One of the most asked-for features in version 3.0 is synchronization of notes. Since Mac OS X doesn't include a full-featured application for creating, categorizing, and searching through notes, The Missing Sync includes Mark/Space Notebook, a powerful helper program, for free. Mark/Space Notebook even syncs voice recordings from your device to the Mac, and support for dot Mac syncing keeps your notes current across multiple computers. You can also choose to synchronize your device's notes with Microsoft Entourage or Yojimbo, the awesome information organizer from Bare Bones, makers of BBEdit.
Be sure to look for a review of The Missing Sync from Dieter soon!
You can get The Missing Sync for $39.95 as a download or $49.95 on CD.
If you're upgrading from a previous version, the price is $19.95.
Full versions and upgrades in download format are currently available from Mark/Space. CDs will be available to purchase in two to three weeks.
