Usability

The Treo is the first smartphone that is actually usable. Dialing numbers is fast, and the keyboard makes the Treo very easy to use for new handheld owners. No Graffiti to learn! You still have to pull out the stylus sometimes (especially on the Applications screen), but most applications accept OPT Enter and other combinations. I also like that I can access menu items via the keyboard.

I must admit, I miss the Springboard slot. I want to have the Backup Module, my security blanket, with me when I travel. I had some hard resets with the Treo, which is a Very Bad ThingTM. The hard resets were caused by a very nasty incompatibility I found: pull up Calculator then switch to Launcher III 2.1 if you want the Treo to give a fatal exception that is unrecoverable. I have to hard reset the Treo when this happens! Other than that misfortune, the only application that I have had problems with was Handspring's free Klondike software, which is understandable as that was intended for Prism owners.

3rd Party Software

Speaking of applications, there are already several applications available for the Treo. Don't like the included ringtones? Create or buy new ones. Use a Memopad replacement? Use Treo Button to configure the OPT application buttons. There will of course be other applications targeted for the Treo. See the Discussion Area or News for information on new applications.
