TreoCentral has started a podcast! It's hosted by Dieter Bohn and Mike Overbo. We'll be broadcasting every two weeks or so and featuring Treo accessories, how-to guides, reviews, and more. Click the links to get the TreoCast for yourself and read on for this episode's show notes.
Please email us your comments at [email protected] . You can also call in comments at 800-557-6819 x222 to leave us audio comments. Finally, discuss the TreoCast in our discussion forums.
Future episodes will feature interviews with TreoCentral's great staff of writers and reviewers, more in-depth guides, and, as always, Treo news. Read on for this epidode's show notes.
Palm to unveil next Treo on Sept. 12th. TreoCentral's report on their original announcement here. The Treo is expected to support 3G/UMTS and run Windows Mobile.
Yelp.com has made a specialized mobile site designed for the Treo, mobile.yelp.com. Yelp is a city guide made up of user-generated content. As Mike says in the TreoCast, content is better when users "Share the load."
Palm settles flip-lid lawsuit. If you've somehow managed to have kept track of your out-of-pocket expenses in replacing a Treo 180, 270, or 300 flip-lid, you may want to check out http://kisersettlement.com/.
We go way back to August 1st to discuss the "Interesting Tidbits in Palm's Annual Statement," specifically debunking fears that Palm is somehow abandoning the PalmOS.
Brighthand writes about the Treo's cameo in Snakes on a Place.
Mike's been using the Sony Ericsson HBH-IV835 bluetooth headset. A great headset - an in-ear headset that connects quickly with the Treo and has automatic volume adjustment.
For a case, Mike's favorite this week is definitely the Invisible Shield (available for the Treo 650 and Treo 700p and 700w.
Dieter's case, on the other hand, is the Palm Hard Case. He calls it "svelte," but really he just meant "nice to touch."
His headset is the Jabra JX-10, another tiny little headset with great sound quality.
You can find all sorts of solutions for automating podcasts in the soon-to-be-official TreoCentral Wiki - the Podcast article. Scroll down to the mOcean section for the simplest PalmOS solution.
One great solution for listening to podcasts on PalmOS Treos (i.e. the 600, 650, and 700p) is mOcean. It can automatically sync with iTunes.
700w users may want to check out song list to m3u wizard.
More to come on the frontpage later this week about the TreoCentral Wiki Contest, but for starters check out the Announcement and Rules in the forums. If you are new to wikis, fear not! It's very easy - later this week we'll update our how-to-edit a wiki guide. For now, check out the basics here. The TreoCentral Store is giving away over $1000 worth of prizes, so check it out!
Mike notes the long-standing thread Cool things that the 650 does that most may overlook thread. There are all sorts of neat tips and tricks in there - undocumented or little knows features. Definitely worth a look.
We also notice that there's thread detailing the latest over-the-air updates for the 700p from Sprint. It apparently provides much better EVDO reliability, though some users have had to try several times to make it "stick." Check out the link for more details.
(And this bit is totally off-topic, but user Jack45208 has started a TreoCentral Fantasy Football League! Details in this thread).
Special thanks to the TreoCentral Store for sponsoring the TreoCast.
