Slingbox: an absolute must-have

Thu Jan 11, 2007 - 9:58 AM EST - By Tim Hillebrand

Conclusion

Yes, I am delighted with the incredible, new functionality Slingbox affords on my various mobile devices, and I cannot recommend it to you with more enthusiasm. It is definitely at the top of my must-have list.

Pros
  • Slingbox allows you to stream live or recorded TV from your home TV/DVR remotely anywhere in the world over an Internet connection.
  • You can control your TV/DVR remotely to create new recordings or delete old ones
  • The picture and streaming are of surprisingly good quality, even on a low resolution screen with a dialup connectionit is better with Wi-Fi.
  • There are no monthly fees.
  • Cons
  • There is no full-screen mode on a Treo.
  • You can only view one channel at a time.
  • You cannot view programming on more than one device at a time
  • When you are in the controlling mode such as changing channels, it takes a few moments for the picture to return to normal, which is annoying.
