A very interesting thread on the TreoCentral forums caught my eye today and as I read it, I got excited. Seems as if Palm just might be responding to Apple's iPhone according to a story in the New York Times.
According to the article, Palm has hired Paul Mercer, a top Silicon Valley software designer and a former Apple computer engineer. Mercer was hired three weeks ago and a company spokeswoman has said that Mercer is working on a line of new products. That's all the company spokeswoman would say on the matter, but that's enough to get Palm users dreaming about great new things to come! Could Palm be working on a product that will be a rival to the iPhone? Palm sure has something in the works, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Mr. Mercer, 39, joined Palm with two employees from Iventor, the independent design firm that he headed in Palo Alto, Calif., but Palm did not acquire the company, said the spokeswoman, Marlene Somsak.
