Palm has released a backup application that will automatically save a copy of your Treo's data over the air to a secure server. You'll need to have a wireless data plan though.
Palm Backup (Beta) will backup your Contacts, Calendar, Memos, Tasks, Bookmarks, Speed Dials, and Call Log. Palm Backup automatically saves a copy of your data to a secure server every day, from anywhere you have wireless data coverage.
Features:
Backup your essential information to a secure server, without using cables or even your desktop computer.
Set an automatic backup schedule, and never think about it again. Or backup manually whenever you want.
Restore your essential personal information from anywhere you have wireless data coverage.
Available from Palm for free (for a limited time).
Palm lists some optimization tips on their website for using their backup application. One of them says, "If you have more than 7000 calls in your call log you may experience slower than normal initial backup speeds (as much as 25 to 30 minutes)." Gosh, ya think? That would be a whole LOT of calls! Actually though, I'm sure many of the power users and business users have that many calls in their call logs and more. This is a really great application for business users to have on their Treo since they can back up their important data while on the go.
Palm states that the devices compatible with Palm Backup (Beta) are the Treo 700P, Treo 680, and Treo 650, and the device must have approximately 2MB of available RAM. Palm Backup will be free for a limited time, but Palm doesn't say anything about an official launch date or what the official price will be.
TreoCentral will have a full review of Palm's new backup application soon so stay tuned.
