So here's a fun story:
I was walking the show floor along with Joel and Chris, who help run the TreoCentral Store. They're at CES to actually find new accessories for the Treo and Centro - so naturally we were trolling around the mobile accessories area.
Lo and Behold, we see a white Centro sitting at an accessory manufacturer's booth - for all the world to see. So obviously we went to see it.
The rep behind the booth said that it was a non-functioning unit sent to him by Palm for sizing. We weren't able to determine whether or not it was functional (we didn't have a Centro battery on us), but as you can see below the device clearly has not only an LCD screen, but also a SIM card slot and a full IMEI number. This looks to be a fully functional GSM Centro.
As TreoCentral has previously reported the GSM Centro has been popping up from time to time in the past few months.
One notable thing about the white GSM Centro is that it seems to have slightly different buttons from the current Centro or the previously leaked Centro images - they are more angled in the unit above. Perhaps it was a pre-production unit.
...and that's our whole story. Just a happy coincidence at CES 2008. First an image of what is almost surely an 800w appeared on the screen in Bill Gates' keynote, then in the same keynote there were images of what looked to be a future version of Windows Mobile, then we got to play with a device that looks to succeed where Foleo didn't (The Redfly), ....and then this white Centro!
All-in-all, it's been a good show for us so far given that Palm doesn't even have a booth here!
Below, the other pictures we snapped of the Centro. Discuss the White GSM Centro in our forums!
