VersaMail Update for Palm Centro

Thu Jan 17, 2008 - 10:14 AM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

I just read over on The Official Palm Blog that Palm has posted an update to VersaMail for Palm Centro users that includes improved Gmail compatibility.

Palm's Support site states that the update is designed to install directly to your Centro Over the Air (OTA). You should NOT download the update to your computer and HotSync it to your Centro, but instead follow the OTA instructions that are detailed here.

What does this update provide?

  • Enhancements to Gmail IMAP compatibility and an updated setup wizard with the new Gmail settings
  • Improvements to help eliminate the silent failure of email when using Microsoft's Direct Push technology via Exchange ActiveSync in VersaMail. Some users have reported that their email stops arriving, but they are not notified to press the Sync button to re-enable Direct Push Technology. This update helps eliminate the occurrence of this scenario.

The update is for Centro user only. If you don't use Microsoft EAS or Gmail IMAP for email, you don't need to download this new version of VersaMail.
