Sprint is circulating a news release announcing price changes for all of their cell phone plans. They claim the new prices are lower than their competitors.
The new plans, touted as simplified, include sharing plans for families, as well as all-you-can-stand plans with unlimited (their word!) messaging and data.
"These days, many families are facing tight finances, and unexpected extra charges on a wireless bill can make budgeting difficult - but with Sprint plans that include all the services customers want for one low price, they can have peace of mind that they're getting a lower price than competitors offer," said Will Souder, vice president of pricing for Sprint. "We want customers to be able to easily see the value in these options, so we've removed the clutter of more complicated plans. Customers can quickly compare and see which plan is best for them."
Vice president of pricing? What a title. The plans are not that simple. In addition to my two Sprint lines, I have a SunCom line for my Treo 680. The price is considerably lower than the new lower prices Sprint just announced, and its the actual cost at the end of the month. No extra fees, add-ons, tax dodges, or other nonsense. Thats honest. And simple.
Sprints new plans include individual, voice-only, voice with unlimited (Sprints term) messaging, and voice with unlimited (Sprints term) messaging and unlimited data. The pricing goes into effect June 15, with plans available for $39.99 for 450 minutes or $59.99 for 900 minutes. Talk/Message/Direct Connect plans were introduced in February at $49.99 for 450 minutes, $69.99 for 900 minutes or $89.99 for unlimited minutes. The companys Everything plans, introduced in February, run $69.99 for 450 minutes, $89.99 for 900 minutes or $99.99 for Simply Everything with unlimited minutes and other services.
Is it me, or is this still pretty complicated? HobbesIsReal, over on TreoCentrals sister site, WMExperts.com, says hell save money on the new plans. Near as I can figure, I wont. The plans I have are what I want. Their names change, but not the price.
The new pricing starts Sunday. To sign up for the new plans, customers should visit a Sprint retail store or call 1-800-Sprint1. The companys website claims most customers can switch billing plans without incurring a new or extended contract. The news release also includes a handy comparison of Sprints new rates to those of Verizon and AT&T.
