As "silly season" rolls right along, we get some juicy bits and pieces here and there on awaited Palm smartphones. our sister site WMExperts had previously reported on the launch date for the Treo 800w as being July 22nd. A few days ago WMExperts reported on a new launch date. Seems there was a scanned inventory sheet for Sprint posted over at HowardForums that puts the date at July 13th, 2008.
Malatesta says that the sheet also confirms their scoop that the 800w will sport a button on top of the device to toggle WiFi on/off. Sweet! I'm pretty sure I've never had a device that has this feature. Well, except for a laptop that I recently gave to my Mom. It'll be great having this WiFi on/off button on a Palm smartphone. Heck, it'll be great to finally even have WiFi on a Palm smartphone!
Hmmm, according to that leaked Sprint inventory sheet, the 800w should be available even earlier, on July 9th, at BP. I wouldn't have a clue as to what that stands for, but klmsu19 in the WMExperts comments points out "BP" probably stands for BrightPoint, "a global leader in the distribution of wireless devices and the provisioning of customized logistic services to the wireless industry".
WMExperts also got hold of some leaked photos of the Sprint Treo 800w courtesy of Matthew_Love84.
Malatesta says that the device pictured is an early tester version, and not a final release/design. He said that you can tell because of the blurred out serial number top right corner and it doesn't have the final paint scheme. Thanks Mal!
I guess you can see the $599.99 full retail price up there in the inventory sheet. Whew, that's a lot of money! But we hope that the cost will be more like $249.99 after contract and rebates. It needs to be since the iPhone 3G has a competetive price.
I can't wait until the Treo 800w finally arrives and we can see it in person! It's just around the corner. ;-)
