Tip o' the Week: Twitter in your pocket!

Thu Jul 31, 2008 - 10:18 AM EDT - By Brian Hart

Overview

Twitter -- it's an addiction. Whether it's following or being followed, Twitter is a great way to let the world (or at least your followers) know every little detail of your life in short text-message-length bursts. Twitter on your WM Treo's IE Mobile is less than desirable. Wouldn't it be great if there was an app for your Treo with Twitter in mind? Fortunately there is... and it's FREE! This week's Tip is all about Twitter in your pocket. Feeling Twitterpated? Read on!

Thanks to Dromio and freewareppc.com, we have PockeTwit v0.9, available for download here. PockeTwit only requires a Twitter account (sign up for free at twitter.com) and a WM Pro device, like your WM Treo. Just download and install the .CAB file and you are ready to go.

With PockeTwit, you have access to many of Twitter's features on your Treo. Update your status, see the timelines of friends and other users, update your status, reply to tweets, view profiles, and more. It's a great way to stay connected to Twitter while on the go.

The PockeTwit interface is impressive. Given the limitations of the Treo's small screen, the app is very scrollable. It features "smart" scrolling; meaning that if you take your fingertip and scroll more than 50% to one side or the other, the screen will automatically scroll the rest of the way. Basically, the app has three viewable options from the main screen: the tweets are in the middle and other options are available on either side. Try it out -- after all, it's free!

That's it for this week's Tip. If you are a developer with some helpful and/or fun software or if you have a Tip that you wish to pass on to the rest of the community, just email me at: [email protected]. Tune in next week for another Tip!
