According to Palm Infocenter, Palm Inc. has just begun sending out invitations to a press event to be held during CES 2009. Evidently the announcement comes in the form of a vaguely worded email invitation for recipients to "Come to CES to see all that Palm New-ness you've been waiting for."

PIC reports that the invitation only event will be held at 11:00 a.m. Pacific on January 8th at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show.

WooHoo! Could it be that Palm is going to tell all about their new operating system at the press event? I sure hope so! I wouldn't be surprised if just this bit of news about the event alone raises Palm's stock a few notches.

We saw a mystery prototype that had a certain Treo-ness about it the other day. Wouldn't it be wild if the prototype turns out to be an upcoming Palm smartphone running on new platform? Sure would be interesting if Palm were to mention that on January 8th.
