SnapperMail 2.0 Beta

Wed Jun 9, 2004 - 4:17 PM EDT - By Michael Ducker

Snapperfish released a 60 day public beta of their long awaited SnapperMail 2.0 today. The major new feature is full IMAP4 email support. (well that, and a new logo). SnapperMail Enterprise Edition 2.0 can be preordered for $59.95 now.

I can't go over all the new features, but Snapperfish has a very good page that has many screenshots and detailed explanations of everything new here. However, the key features are these:

"IMAP4 Compatibility:
SnapperMail Enterprise 2.0 is compatible with RFC compliant IMAP servers including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino, and Novell Groupwise and supports any number of subfolders regardless of hierarchical structure. In addition, to improve real-world performance on folders containing thousands of messages, SnapperMail can be configured to sync within a date window so you can access just the latest messages without syncing the whole mailbox.

Security, SSL and VPN:
For enterprise grade security SnapperMail 2.0 can encrypt the data-pipe with SSL (including support for the STARTTLS handshake commonly used on Exchange servers). Alternatively, it can be used in conjunction with any number of VPN clients to punch through the corporate firewall. In this installation we’ve bundled a demo of MergicVPN, a PPTP VPN client. More VPN solutions are listed on our site at www.snappermail.com/palm/email/solutions/enterprise.cfm.

Ghost™ Messages:
Unique to SnapperMail is a feature that allows messages that are no longer online on the IMAP server to be retained for reference on your handheld. This is particularly handy when! referencing old messages outside of your “sync window”. This feature works very well with our Memory Card Archiving.

Memory Card Archiving:
SnapperMail Enterprise and Premier 2.0 gains the ability to archive old messages to the vast storage room on your memory card. This opens up the possibility to store months and even years of old email to reference wherever you go."
