Seidio Battery Cover

Tue Nov 29, 2005 - 12:08 PM EST - By James Hromadka

Overview

There are days when Murphy's Law rends its ugly head. You just installed a new application on your Treo 650, and the next thing you know the device stops responding, or you have even worse luck and are always having to reset the Treo. It is a real pain to have to remove the battery cover just to press the reset button, and by the time the cover is off, it's faster to just pull and reinsert the battery instead of pressing the reset button with the stylus.

If the phrase "if I had a nickel for every time I had to reset the Treo" has ever crossed your mind, the Seidio Battery Cover with reset hole is a must.

Usability

The Seidio Battery Cover is available in either Blue or Silver so it can match the Treo. I used a Silver cover with a GSM Treo, and while the color was close, upon careful inspection you will notice it is slightly darker. However, it's not enough to casually notice. The cover is also a little shinier than the Treo. Neither of these things are worthy of concern. If you really are looking at the back of the Treo that often, you have bigger problems.

When you put the cover on, you may notice that it feels a lot tighter than the original one. I had to remove a small piece of foam from the cover in order to make it easier to put on. The tightness has the added benefit of making the stylus a little more snug, so you are less likely to have it accidently slide out of the Treo.

The reset hole works as advertised. There's not a lot more I can say about that, except that it's a shame that Palm didn't include one in the first place and users have to resort to 3rd-parties for something as basic as a reset hole for the Treo.

Conclusion

The Seidio Battery Cover is a no-brainer. At $9.95, you will make your money back quickly from the reduced hassle of resetting the Treo. Seidio plans on updating its cases to accomodate the hole as well, so you won't have to remove the Treo from its case either when things go bad.
