Great Case |
Although in the past I have been a krusel case person, I love the magnetflipper case!! Despite the reviewer's comments, the flip at the bottom really works fine for me. with the magnets at the top, it makes it very comfortable and easy to access - whether making a phone call, answering a call, keying in info. I just rec'd the croc leather tan one and am very happy with it. it's as professional looking as the smooth leather ones. one advantage with the flip bottom is when keying - you don't have to worry about the top falling down covering the screen. although my previous palm cases had the flip at the top, it took me about 5 minutes to get used to the flap at the bottom. you can't go wrong with this case!

Great case with one minor (fixable) flaw |
With all of the options available in Treo cases I had a tough time deciding what to buy. I actually ordered the leatherskin/pouch combo from Sena to start with but, when it arrived, I found that although it was of excellent quality and appearance, on a slender frame it was too bulky. I then ordered this magnetflipper case in crocodile burgundy with a belt clip. I was a little concerned that the color/design might be a little too flashy for work but, because I wanted something different than the standard black or brown case, I decided to give it a shot and am I glad I did. It's a great shade (think bordeaux wine) and doesn't attract much attention at all, yet adds a little personality to the mix.
The quality of the leather, fit, and stitching is top notch. It fits very snug with the phone and makes it easy to hold. Although the clip keeps the phone away from the body somewhat, the phone doesn't appear bulky on the frame. The clip system is unlike any I've ever seen. I had expected it to ratchet 360 degrees but instead it rotates uninhibited. I actually like it that way as if it's bumped up, it just falls back down to its standard position without a problem. You also can't remove or insert the phone unless you turn it 90 degrees. That prevents accidental releases.
One thing I was concerned with was how akward it would be having the flap hang down while on the phone or using the Palm. I'm happy to say it hasn't bothered me one bit. In fact, my fingers kind of naturally wrap around it and provides extra support for holding the device while in use. I know everyone is different, but for me it's been a non-issue.
The only flaw is with the magnets. While it's a great design concept, the magnets aren't powerful enough. Within 4 hours of using it the flap had disconnected at least a half-dozen times. Being very satisfied with everything else about the case I really didn't want to send it back, but this issue was going to drive me crazy. The solution? Go to your local craft store (JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels, Etc.) and buy a $2.99 strip of velcro (comes in many colors, so choose whatever goes best with your case - I used black). A 1/2" square applied on the inside of the case to the right of the earpiece (basically on top of the magnet on that side) is all it takes and you have enough extra in the pack for about 20 more squares if this first one happens to lose its effectiveness after a while. Now the flap holds firmly in place unless I want it to open and there's no way I'd ever send this case back.

Doesn't stay closed |
This is the first Flip Case I bought, and I sent it back. This cae doesn't stay closed, and the leather is easily scratched. Covertec has a much better flip case with much better leather. Skip this one.

one thing worth noting |
This case generally comes with a ratcheting clip. The price has come down a bit as well. It's one of the better flip cases available for the 650.
