NS Basic/Palm by NS Basic Corporation

>> Read Review (Rating 5/5) <<

For under $100 with no runtime royalties, NS Basic/Palm is in a class by itself. Save for a few UI glitches and stylistic issues, its an excellent product. If you know BASIC, youll feel right at home. If you've programmed for the Pilot in C, youll find that NS Basics built in functions mirror the PalmSDKs quite accurately.

Best $100 I ever spent.
Easy to use if you have had any exposure to VB. Had my first small app up and running in an hour. Now the fun begins.

Have a try at HB++ instead
HB++ (www.handheld-basic.com) goes much further than NSB in terms of power and ease of development. HB++ is free for non-commercial use (your app will start with a "nag screen") and has a strong developer community.

It sure beats fighting with C
Get NSBasic if you want to write some quick code, don't want to learn (or hassle with) C, and/or have experience with Visual Basic. It has some rough edges and the manual (while good as a command reference) lacks examples, especially for database programming. On the plus side, I has my first program working on my Visor two hours after opening the box NSBasic was shipped in. In C it would have taken me two days!

Why have a runtime when you don;t need it?
Bought NS/Basic, gave it a week, found that I have the same learning curve as CASL, and with the new CASL compiler (which is significantly less expensive also!) I don't need a run-time, it compiles directly to a PRC file. Also, the ability to use C libraries if I want to means that anything that can be done in C can be done in CASL, but without any of the C headaches. Give casl a try, http://www.caslsoft.com/

BUY IT
I love the program and find that the support that the team at NSBasic gives is the best. I usually get helped in 12 hours from reporting a problem

On no not BASIC
BASIC sucks, why learn another language again!

Incredible
I've been using NSBasic for a while now - after investigating using CodeWarrior and learning C to get stuff done, NSBasic is an excellent, much simpler, cost effective alternative.
