Otter Box 2000 by Otter Box

>> Read Review (Rating 4/5) <<

Are you the kind of person who takes the road less traveled, or who trods the unbeaten path? Whether you are or are not, sometimes it is necessary to take your Visor into an environment where you're just asking for trouble. For those times when you go canoeing or hiking and want to protect your Visor from water or that bear that's been following you, you can do just that by stowing your Visor in the Otter Box 2000 (OB2000).

The Otter Box 2000 is made with a fiberglass reinforced ABS resin that is almost crush-proof, and it is waterproof up to a depth of 100 ft. This case also floats in water, which means that is should be harder to lose and easier to find in the event that it is lost in an aquatic environment, such as a lake or river. The manufacturer has a lifetime warranty on the OB2000, so in the unlikely event you damage it, they will replace it for free!

What kind of protection can your fancy leathercase provide?
If you don't have a hard case, you gotta get yourself one of these. I have a Handspring slimcase but I used to always feel afraid to just throw my Visor inside my backpack with the books and other hard and heavy stuffs I have in there. Not anymore with this armor of a case. For $15, I can say this is the most economical and practical pda accessory I've ever purchased.

The Gladiator of cases
Even Russell Crowe couldn't hurt this thing. I cut a piece of foam shaped like a an inverted U. I cut the ends enough to avoid touching the buttons so it doesn't cause problems. The inside of the U is sized to hold two modules by fictional pressure. The foam touches the edge of the Visor when the case is closed so that the Visor is locked-in solid; you can shake it and there is no motion.

this thing can withstand Armageddon!
True, this is not the kind of case you'd carry when you are sporting an Armani suit. But, man, this thing can withstand Armageddon. I used a double-faced tape to stick the face cover that came with my Platinum so I can easily remove the unit to hotsync and replace the batteries. I bought StingerStylus (www.stingerstylus.com) so I don't have to always pull the one out of the silo. I am a happy man. Cheers and peace to all living things.

Customize the Otter Box 2000!!!
First, the Otter Box 2000 is an excellent case. I work in construction and am often out in the field. I needed a case that could take a beating in my brief case, which includes rulers, measuring tapes and several tools. The only problem I had with Otter Box 2000 was that I couldn't get it out of the case fast enough, but I came up with a simple solution. I cut out the sealant on one side of the Otter Box to match the black plastic removable cover that came with my Plat. I then velcroed the plastic case to the Otter Box and had in less than 10 minutes created a custom hard shell, waterproof, crush proof case, that floats, for my Platinum. Everyone at the office thinks I had it custom made and are asking me where they can get it since we all own Visors.

Otterbox 2000
Just came in the mail from REI.com Looks great. VDX moves around inside it a bit more than I would want. I'll probably ad a thin bit of foam to the top half. I use a Targus belt clip case and it will not fit in the OB2000. I want the OB2000 for camping and don't want to go back to the slip case or bifold, but those will probably fit and stop the VDX from sliding. I recommend this box, it is just what the company said and at a good price to boot.

Industrial Protection for Your Visor
I really like the protection this case offers. I bike, run and hike a lot and find that this case keeps my Visor safe. The highest drop I had was from about 5' onto tile and nothing happened. My only complaint is that there is nothing to hold your Visor in the case (I attached a couple of velcro disks do deal with this). It would be nice to see Otterbox add a small foam insert cut to size so that you could keep your Visor from moving in the case but access it quickly.

Incredible protection for scrounging students
Okay, before I say why I like it, understand a few things about this case. Firstly, it is not really suitable for use as is. Put your visor in it, give it a shake, and you can hear it bouncing and bashing from side to side, up and down. You need to either put some bubble wrap on one lid or for the better look, black foam. The extra space does allow for batteries though and with the padding is no longer an issue. Secondly, it's not really a case with which you can use the visor in the case. You can, but let me demonstrate with your imagination. For the average right handed person, to do this would involve first opening it, OtterBox logo facing you, clips to the left. This way you can hold the left lid in your left hand (where the visor would go) and the empty lid with the clips on would fling out of the way to the right and down (it opens further than 180 degrees :/ ). Taping the hard cover to the left side now where you would like the visor to go, so you can now clip it in and remove it from the case for hotsync allows you to secure the unit somewhat and stops it falling out flat forward should you tilt it too far. However, you still can't remove the stylus without removing the visor, it's a bit heavy, but most importantly should you drop the case face down it'd smash on the ground with the full weight of the case, the screen of the visor sticking out beyond half the cases height. But, it's not for that is it? It's the strong as steel carrying case for those who don't have the money to buy a posh case. From looking at them and reading the reviews of the other case, I can say the only one which is on par is the TiSlider for strength. It feels incredibly robust yet light and once the bubble wrap/foam was added, I felt ready to enter a warzone. I'd get shot up, but my visor would be fine! :)

The Otter Box Rocks!
Wonderful product at a fraction of the price of other hard cases. I have one a tip for other users... and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this: During air travel, it is wise to open at least one of the latches, if not both. I guess that b/c the Otterbox is airtight, the changes in airpressure made it difficule to open once on the ground again...IT WAS SEALED SHUT!!! I was forced to pry it open with a screwdriver. No harm though. Just need to think ahead before boarding a plane. It's a great product! I intend to purchase more Otterboxes in the future. And YES! It DOES float!!! Also great for cell phones, bill folds @ waterparks, etc.

Very Sturdy Protection
My sentiments echo all the others listed. It certainly offers some comfort knowing that it would take quite alot of abuse to damage my Visor while in the OB 2000. The price can't be beat for what you get in return.
