Treo 800w by Palm, Inc

>> Read Review (Rating 5/5) <<

Given the state of the smartphone world today, I'm betting that many in the business set won't be getting the message about the Treo 800w, and that's a shame. It's more than competitive with the current generation of BlackBerrys (better, in my opinion) and even holds up fairly decently against the upcoming BlackBerry Bold (except, of course, in the looks department).

As for those of us who like to call ourselves "power users," the 800w has enough speed and space to handle pretty much any app or customization you might want to throw at it. It's a worthy successor to the venerable Treo 700wx, I just wish that it had arrived a year ago.

Great phone you can use for tons of stuff
I have had the Treo 800w for about a year. The keyboard and texting experience is second to none. Every important program I need runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 including Outlook with Pocket Business Contact Manager, Skype and eWallet. I use the MS Office Suite and Outlook heavily and the synchronization between the 800w and my PC is great. The 800w is very quick running apps and web browsing. Just close some your programs once in a while and you will rarely have a problem. I have had calls get stuck occasionally. The OEM stylus is cheap but works OK and I know I could get the aftermarket metal one if I really want. The speakerphone struggles much above half volume. Battery life is bad. I have to start the day fully charged and with moderate use I often need to recharge the phone on the laptop USB cord or car charger. Yet, overall, it's the most useful treo I have had. Too bad Palm had to drop the Treo and Windows Mobile to concentrate on the Pre. I haven't found a worthy replacement yet for my 800w. The Treo Pro is nice, but I don't see the advantage over the 800w with the fingerprint magnet surface, less snappy speed, inferior keyboard, and lack of the top two physical Notification and Menu keys. As far as the Pre and Pixi, they still lack the software compatibility that Windows Mobile has. I like the Android phones, but I would miss the one handed Treo operation. Maybe the Pixi will be my next phone or just maybe Palm will come up with a powerful Treo with the new OS. I bet they are working on it. I doubt they will just retire the valuable Treo brand.

Great Phone
Hate stylus, attached a telescoping metal one (looped around worthless included stylus). Love how it feels to type on, love the screen. Keep chargers all over house and office and use regularly. Like it as well or better then my pre. If I had to choose b/t the 2 phones I would keep the treo 800w. Takes good pictures and does video. Fast internet w/ or w/o wifi. GPS is awesome. Ringers could be louder. Screen is sensative. I think my Treo is sexy.

on my 2nd
If you don't mind resetting it 3-5 times a day and HORRIBLE battery life, then this phone is for you. Sprint replaced mine once and now the second is failing. Having them send me an HTC Snap next.

NOT VERY DEPENDABLE
I HAVE OWNED A TREO 800W FOR 2 MONTHS AND HATE IT, IT CONSTANTLY LOCKS UP, YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT IS GOING TO RING RIGHT, EVERYTIME I DOWNLOAD MY EMAIL FROM YAHOO OR GMAIL IT LOCKS UP, I HAD A BLACKBERRY WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT LIKE THE WINDOWS SOFTWARE FOR WORK, THEY ARE SENDING ME A KNEW ONE NOW TO SEE IF IT WORKS BETTER AFTER THEY HAVE RESET IT TO NEW 4 TIMES WE WIL SEE

Palm is garbage
I've had Palms for six years. The only halfway decent one was the 650. I've had nine of these in less than 18 mos. All garbage, reset, restart, crash, lockup, crappy software. Getting stuck with the garbage Palm OS software was a mistake. Palm is the stomach virus of PDAs and companies and I cannot believe they are still in business. Their outsourced customer service is terrible too. Crappy product, crappy software, crappy service. Don't make the mistake, get a Blackberry.

Lag in response, lockups, speaker distortion
Upgraded from the 700WX to the 800W as a long-time Treo owner. I'm going back to the 700 or maybe the HTC Diamond. Very disappointed in Sprint and Palm.
