Your Centro's Camera Can Help Tell a Story

Fri Oct 10, 2008 - 2:59 PM EDT - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

We all know that the Centro's camera, a 1.3 megapixel camera, isn't the best. Some might even call it a poor camera. Well, I think it's a good camera for on the go. I have a nice digital camera but don't carry it with me all the time. Since I do carry my Centro with me everywhere I go, the camera can come in handy when photo opportunities arise.

Sometimes a photo speaks for itself, but sometimes there's more to the story than meets the eye. Pardon those clichés. Anyway, it's nice to know that with our Centro, we can capture photos that fall under either category.

Here's a pic that I snapped of my Celio REDFLY. Before I even opened the box, my husband walked into my office and saw it sitting on the floor and said, "What have you bought now? What is that?". And I thought, "Uh oh." So I explained what the REDFLY was, and that I'd bought it for my job. And of course I mentioned that I was going to count it as a business expense on my taxes. Anyway, I did buy it with my money. LOL, he wasn't really mad about it, but he does kid me about buying so many gadgets. However, he has said, "You're killing us" before after I'd bought quite a few devices. ;-)

Barry and I were in a nearby city recently, on our way to Best Buy. When we were stopped at a red light at a huge intersection, I glanced out the window and saw this black car pull up in one of the left turning lanes. Imagine my surprise when I saw this huge Doberman sitting in the car with its head sticking out of the sunroof. I was so happy that I had my Centro with me! I quickly got it out and snapped this photo. You just never know what you're going to see when you're out and about.

I love the change of seasons as I'm sure you all do too. One day back in the Summer when I was over at my Mom's house, I noticed one of her roses had bloomed so I snapped a pic of it. And yesterday, I was outside in my backyard and noticed two lovely Fall leaves that had blown over the house from the sugar maples in the front yard. Ahh, the first signs of Fall, one of my favorite seasons! I thought the colorful leaves looked pretty on the green grass.

Hmmm, looks like our yard is in need of mowing though. Baaaaaaaaaaarrrrry! Well, it's actually raining today so he's off the hook this time.

This is supposed to be my desk here in my office. Goodness knows how I ever get any work done though. Charlie here, our youngest kitty, wants to be with me all the time. What you see here in these two pics is what I see on a daily basis. I have many opportunities to snap pics like these because it happens so often and my Centro is right here on my desk when I'm in here. I just don't have the heart to make Charlie move because, well, he's so darned cute!

Looks like my Centro has captured all kinds of laziness going on around here, huh? Most of the photos on my Centro are of my cats because that's what I mostly see. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who carries pet pics around on their phones. Many people that I know and have recently met have their cell phones loaded with pet photos. I actually see more pet photos that baby photos. In fact, I can't remember the last time someone showed me a pic of their kid on their phone.

Sometimes a picture doesn't tell the whole story but it does help to illustrate the story. Take the above left pic for instance. Both pics are what I see when I'm sitting on my screened-in porch. It's very peaceful out there and mostly woods for miles, starting at the edge of my backyard. I love to sit out there on the porch at night and gaze at the stars. The porch is/was a perfect spot because there aren't any city lights. I'm cuckoo about meteor showers, and when I worked a different job, I scheduled some of my vacation days around those meteor showers so I could be home at night to watch them. See that object circled in red in the pic on the left? A light. My stupid neighbor called the power company because he's afraid of the dark and had them install a security light. Thanks! NOT! There goes my meteor shower show from the back porch. Oh well, at least I had 13 years worth of watching them from my porch before Mr. Chicken moved in.

Now to the picture on the right. I took this photo to show the exact spot where I saw something extremely unusual one time. I was sitting out on the porch one night, just after dusk, texting to some friends. When I was finished texting, I just sat there and was thinking about this and that. I started thinking about the couple who used to live in the house to the right of us. The pic is a view of their back yard where it borders the woods. I was thinking about how odd it was that they were both gone. They had both died within a couple of years of one another and someone else was living in the house. Well, see right there where I've circled in red? As I was sitting there thinking about the former, late neighbors, a white shape slowly floated out of the woods. I sat up straight as a pin and my jaw dropped. I leaned forward and stared at the shape. It was not fog. There was no fog or mist. It was something upright and more of a human shape. It wasn't an albino deer either, unless one can "float" on its hind legs. This thing was floating, not walking. I was so scared that I was rooted to my chair. All I could do was stare. As the thing slowly floated closer to my yard, I finally got the nerve to jump out of my chair and run in the house. I doubt if my Centro would have taken a decent picture of that thing if I'd even tried because it was getting very dark out. Heck, who could think about taking a picture though when you're that scared? But at least I can share the ghostly story and do have a photo of the spot where I saw the thing emerge from the woods.

By the way, the guy who currently lives in that house told me that he was on his computer a few months ago, video chatting with a friend. His friend asked him who the old guy standing behind him was. My neighbor told his friend that he was alone in the house. Of course when he turned around, nobody was there. My neighbor had never met or seen the couple who used to live there. I asked him if his friend described the man who he'd seen. When he told me the description, I told him that it sure sounded like the man who used to live there. Ugh! That is just too creepy!

There are several articles floating around here at TreoCentral about your Centro's camera and how to get some great use out of it:

In Part 11 of Jay's Centro Intro series, Jay tells you how to attach a picture to an Email.

Joe's Camera "How-to" articles, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 show you how to get the most from your Centro's built-in camera.

Brian has had a couple of camera themed Tip o' the Week articles: "Always Camera Ready!" and "Camera to Qipit".

So, get that Centro camera out and make some use of it. You won't necessarily capture any award winning quality photos, but you can get some fun photos that you can share with your family and friends. You might even have to snap a pic of some body damage on your vehicle in a fender bender or have the opportunity to snap a pic of a rare bird or even a celebrity, depending on where you live and where you go. Then again, you might just capture some of the laziest cats on earth. ;-)
