More on the Sprint Treo Pro

Tue Jan 20, 2009 - 6:10 AM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

Looks like a tipster sent Engadget Mobile some Sprint Treo Pro pics, which includes a couple of looks at the box. The box looks a lot like the GSM Treo Pro packaging except for the bright Sprint graphics on the side.

Nice to see more photos of the Sprint Treo Pro popping up. Most of the pics are probably from Sprint employees who have the Treo Pro but can't take it home yet. I'm glad they're nice enough to snap some pics and share with us.

Let's not forget that beautiful, first leaked shot (above) that Malatesta posted over at our sister site WMExperts a couple of weeks ago, thanks to gadgetluva.

Yesterday I reported about a TreoCentral forum member who got to play with a Sprint Treo Pro and who gave us his first impressions.

In that same thread, Forum member Palmfood said that he got to play with a pre-production Sprint Treo Pro:

I was @ a party last night in my neighborhood and met a guy that works for Sprint and he has a pre-production Treo Pro and he let me play with it. It had the etchings of a "beta" type device. I'd never see that before. Pretty neat. Anywho, this is one solid device! My primary personal phone is a Centro and when I saw the Treo Pro my eyes almost popped out of my head. It felt great and I couldn't believe the size of the screen & keyboard it's relatively "huge". I have a tough time typing on the Centro and kind of always envy'd the 755's style keyboard, but IMO the Treo Pro's will blow it away. I love the tackyness of the Centro's. I can't wait till it's out. I convinced my work place to go with Sprint because they get the latest devices and the best business pricing. Everyone here got a htc Touch Pro, but I told my boss that I'd hold off and wait for the Treo Pro. Thanks GOD I did. This thing it awesome!! He also confirmed that Jan. 25th, 2009 will be the release date for the Treo Pro. Seven days fella's/fellaette's and it becomes a reality.

Forum member entropism works for Sprint and has a Treo Pro. He said:

So I received my device today, and I'm honestly a little shocked. I'm an admitted WinMo hater and basher, yet I'm loving the Pro. Every customer that saw the phone was asking about it, and every coworker was begging to use it. Unfortunately, I have to leave it with my store for the next two weeks, so I won't be able to do much customization to it until then, but after that, it'll be all mine to do whatever I'd like with it.
My only issues so far:
I installed Opera Mobile, and for some reason when I close out of the browser, I won't be able to get back in until I do a battery pull. It's not a huge deal, as I'll be eventually installing Skyfire, but it's an annoyance. Should I be using Opera Mini instead?
I set up both of my Gmail accounts using IMAP, but it still asks me how often it should check for mail. Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of IMAP? Any way to get push GMail?

Anyway, the Sprint Treo Pro is coming soon. I'm happy that Sprint folks will get to experience the Treo Pro. It is definitely one sweet smartphone. It looks great and also works great.

Head over to Engadget Mobile to see some more pics.
