Palm Strikes a Pose at Fashion Week

Mon Sep 14, 2009 - 12:55 PM EDT - By Annie Latham

Palm has a booth at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (being held in New York City) where they are showcasing their new Pixi webOS-based smartphone and the Palm Pixi Artist Series of limited edition back covers.

Dan Frommer of Silicon Alley Insider wrote a post about it in the Silicon Alley Insider, where he referred to the Pixi as a "souped up Treo/Centro" running Palm's new webOS platform.

The booth itself was decorated in the style of artist Cole Gerth's "Hummingbird" design. Here is what Frommer surmised was Palm's point of having a booth at Fashion Week:

Palm wants to appeal to women and style-conscious males. Its Centro was especially popular with women, and it's trying to position the Pixi for them, too.

They're the only tech company here, so no need to compete with 5 competitors in the same venue.

What, is Apple going to do this? No way.

The price was right. For $250,000 and up, you can reach about 100,000 fashion-conscious people.

You can see pictures of Palm's booth in Frommer's post. Fashion Week continues through September 17.
