Guest Post: Tribute to VisorCentral

Tue Oct 6, 2009 - 4:29 PM EDT - By Annie Latham

More on the legacy of VisorCentral...

Once the Treo line came out, VisorCentral gave birth to TreoCentral. A good part of the community migrated to it bringing that same sense of excitement they had for the Visor but now directing it towards this revolutionary new cell phone. This was a cycle that would happen over and over again as the latest and greatest new product came out.

It was the birth of what we in the TreoCentral community coined as, "Silly Season." I define it as that time where a new Palm product is introduced and the community transitions their excitement towards it, away from a prior model. It is a cycle that I have been caught up in for ten years. Much of the community wears it as a badge of honor on their user profile depicting their journey through each season. My personal journey would be listed as: Visor Deluxe -> Treo 270 -> Treo 600 -> Treo 650 -> Treo 700p -> Pre. During the same period I have gone from VisorCentral -> TreoCentral -> PreCentral. The last of which has transitioned much of the excitement for the Treo to the Pre and webOS.
