Conclusion
The Treo 600 is a mature product, as compared to the Treo 180/270/300. Handspring addressed many problems with the old Treos, and improved their overall software. They successfully made a proxy less browser, and wrote a very excellent email app. The 5-way navigator is integral to the Treo 600 because it makes it possible to use the device one handed, a feature that makes the Treo 600 different form its competition. But dont be fooled, the Treo 600 still has a touch screen for the applications that require it. Battery life is greatly improved over older Treos; it finally gives an acceptable talk time!
There are still major issues though. For $600 one should expect a nicer screen. More memory is always appreciated; I only have 2 MB left as I speak. And the lack of applications such a sound recording, or video recording is disappointing. Bluetooth has been rumored to be part of a future Treo, but I would of liked to see it now. I have built in Bluetooth on my Powerbook, and would love to rid myself of the big bulky cable attached to it right now. The issues with the SD slot are still to come, and the camera isnt what I hoped it to be.
But, when I hold it in my hand - My thumb on the center of the 5-way, the weight perfectly balanced - This device, teensy when compared to almost any other PDA, all the little problems drop out of the picture. Handspring has made a converged device that offers the full power of a Palm while keeping the integration and simplicity of a phone. They have done remarkably well, and as part of PalmOne can only get better.
