I am returning my T-Mobile Dash |
This unlocked model is just so much easier to use. No complaints.

This kicks major butt over my Razr |
I would like to see more color options available such as Green, Blue, Pink, Black, etc. Also, I would like to see a charge cradle that also has a port to plug a headset into for use of the device while it is in the cradle charging.
I am so happy with my new 680

No problems for me. Very pleased |
My experience so far has been very uneventful which I guess is what we all want. This is a great device!

Great replacement for my old 650 |
This thing is more stable. No problems to report. Battery usage is much better after breaking it in with several complete charge and discharge cycles.

I don't regret leaving my 650 at all |
This new 680 device has been worth every penny. Everything I loved about my 650 is here PLUS some delightful improvements that add to and improve over some of what I used to not like. New integrated phone app rocks. Far better RF for me with the same carrier and area of coverage. This phone fits perfectly in my hands without the old antenna stub to boot. Very happy experienced 650 user now with the 680.

Beautiful Smart Phone! |
No more WM 5 for me. I don't care if this thing isn't able to simultaneously cook breakfast for me, weed the garden, and also do the laundry. What it is intended to do, it does supremely well. No feature bloatware here. The battery talk time has been consistently around 4 hours for me. I can currently easily avoid any problems and manage this with my laptop cable trickle charging while I talk. If I am in the car, I keep it plugged into the car adapter. There are not too many places in modern America where I am doing heavy usage without having access to a charge maintenance option. If there ever is (camping, etc.) I'll bring spare batteries. There is an upgradeable longer life battery option that will be available within the month so that will be welcomed. Most folks don't spend every waking minute of each day with their Treo in their hand all day long and I suspect that those who do are the ones who are most vocal. In the future when we have devices with a battery capacity exceeding 10 hours of solid usage, there will likely still be some who will sound off because it is not yet 20, etc. That being said, greater length of battery power is of course always a good thing. This issue is not even close to being a deal breaker for me though. The Treo 680 pluses as opposed to this are so much higher. If you are on the fence and so inclined, buy one of these and for now just keep an eye out for topping off your battery charge and you will be just fine.
I love this phone!

Excellent Device for its intended user |
For the smaller market of geeked out "Power-Users", this device will not satisfy because anytime you bury the OS with tons of 3rd party apps you are going to have problems. I have found this to be the case also with WM 5.0. I am a recovering gadget addict who simply wants a reliable smart device to converge my PDA and calling functions together well. The Treo 680 has been very solid so far. The battery life issue will be addressed soon enough by Seido options released within the month. For the entry level smartphone user (NOT the experienced power users who usually post here) this device offers a great value option. That said however, as a former power user myself, I am well pleased with the 680 and don't understand the intensely negative vibe that some have had with it. This is not your "be-all" killer, power device. It has never been intended to be.

680 is NOT a good 650 replacement |
I'm a 1+ year veteran 650 user.
I'm sick of reviews that don't push the device with anything other than out of the box apps. That is total BS and you should be unimpressed.
I've pushed my 650 to the limit for AVI viewing, MP3 (PTunes Deluxe), Office Documents, PDF docs (Picsel Proviewer), CallRec call recording. Primarily Chattermail with IMAP+Idle doing real time email 7am-12pm on two accounts. All day, every day. I also use PDANet to put my PC directly on the internet through the Treo 650 - I haven't even bothered trying this with the 680... I'm done testing.
This 650 has had Chattermail doing email in the background all day while I listed to PTunes or watch AVIs, and only stuttered when launching - but otherwise performs. Admirable for this a PDA like this.
The 680 is not capable of doing the same job. I bought the 680 as an upgrade. The battery life is horrible. The phone resets or freezes. And no, I can't wait for a ROM upgrade, especially with Cingular taking 6 months longer than anyone else to release them.
It burns through a full battery charge in a few hours. Every once in a while, a background process sends the 680 into hyperspeed and it heats up while runnning at 100% and simply burns down the battery unless you catch it and reset - battery out method.
Other deficiencies. I used TCPMP with the 650 to view ripped AVI movies (by chapter - so about ~20MB in size each.) The 680 internal Media viewer cannot view same AVIs, despite it's AVI capable claim. BS. I use fax systems that send me PDF and TIF images. The 680 Media viewer (tif capable) cannot view the TIF images - keeps claiming corruption or out of memory, and the Palm PDF viewer Documents to Go is outshined by the PicSel Proviewer by a WIDE margin in capability - or the free PalmPDF viewer.
I expected to get a hit on battery, but not expecting a drop of about 50% run time between charges. Freezes galore. Runaway battery drainers periodically. Not acceptable.
Improvements? Yes, a few. Speakerphone feature much improved, and Bluetooth headset clarity improved.
Worst experiece with 680 - phone reset when I answered my wife's call and went into a boot loop that took 10 minutes of scramble to stop.
I'm going to return to Cingular as soon as I'm home from my travels. I'm going to try Cingular's 8525 when it arrives at Cingular.
Another thing I noticed when comparing 650 replacements - Windows Mobile apps are generally 1/2 the cost of Palm apps. I buy a lot of commercial apps and upgrades.
This is truly disappointing - as I'm a big fan of the Treo 650. After working the 650 bugs out for months, I ended up with a solid daily all-in-one communications tool that was TOTALLY dependable - and slogged through it's job with nary a burp.
